Additional information

Site description
The Municipality régionale de Comté (MRC) du Haut-Saint-Laurent is a territory located in the south-west of the Province of Québec, more precisely between the St.Lawrence River in the north and the New York State (USA) border in the south. It is part of North America's great deciduous forest.
Habitat
The study area belongs to the Great Lakes and St.Lawrence forest, more precisely to the L.2 area of the Haut-St-Laurent, within the Hickory-Maple climax domain, the southernmost domain in Quebec. Between 35 to 40 % of the area supports forest communities mostly located on land unfit for agriculture.

Study design
A first photo-interpretation (1:15 000) was done in order to obtain a preliminary of geomorphological system. Sampling plots were determined following a second photo-interpretation. Exploratory field trips were made in order to choose visually homogenous forest areas. A sampling plot (total 452) were chosen by walking fifty steps in a random direction from the center of each homogeneous area.
